JFK Design Build’s maintenance checklist to ensure the long-term health of your home.

Homeowner Tips:

JFK Design Build Fall Maintenance Tips

Heating Ducts

Ducts should be cleaned once every two years. Homeowners should

also consider adding insulation to any exposed ductwork, to reduce

heat loss and thereby reduce heating costs.

Chimney Inspection

Before you light that first fire of the season be sure to have the

chimney inspected for animals, debris and leaves. We recommend installing a screen over the chimney opening to prevent these issues.

Weather Stripping

Check your weather stripping and bottom door sweeps for wear and gaps. Excessive wear can cause air infiltration resulting in higher energy consumption.

Clean Your Gutters

Clean your gutters & downspouts.  Clogged gutters can cause water to backup, which eventually damages the soffits.

Ridge Vents

The ridge vents need to be cleaned at least annually to allow

the house to “breathe” correctly. When homes fail to breathe air can stagnate and create an unhealthy environment.

According to the EarthWorks Group, the average American home has air leaks that add up to a 9 square foot hole in the wall. For this reason, it’s wise to inspect the caulking around windows and doors each year to check for any cracking or peeling.
